04 / Why generate it
Trust & Safety SaaS (Sift, Spectrum Labs) is enterprise-priced. AI pre-screening alone via OpenAI moderation API + a queue UI is something you can ship in a day for under $50/month.
Moderation policies are specific to your community. Vendor tools provide generic toxicity scoring but can't enforce your unique rules. Owning the code means policy lives where decisions happen.
FAQ
Everything you need to know before you generate it. Anything else, our team is one email away.
Each new flag gets scored by OpenAI's moderation endpoint (free) for hate, harassment, sexual, violence categories. Items above thresholds (e.g. >0.9 hate) auto-action; items in the grey zone (0.5-0.9) go to human review; below 0.5 may auto-approve depending on policy.
Two patterns. Round-robin assigns flags evenly across active reviewers. Workload-aware checks each reviewer's in-progress count and assigns to the lightest-loaded. Webtwizz scaffolds either; round-robin is simpler and usually enough.
Removed users get an "appeal" link in their removal email. Appeal form captures their reasoning. Appeals route to senior mods (or a separate appeals queue) so the original mod doesn't review their own decision. Approved appeals reverse the action and notify the user.
Audit log makes them easy. Aggregate weekly: items reviewed, items removed, average review time, appeal rate, reversal rate. Useful for community trust and regulatory reporting (DSA in EU requires it for larger platforms).
