04 / Why generate it
Booqable, Rentle, EZRentOut all charge $40-$200/month or per-transaction. For a marketplace you're building, those fees stack on top of your own platform fee, eating margin.
Niche rental marketplaces win on category-specific UX (e.g. cameras need lens compatibility info; RVs need pickup-location pickers). Owning the code means you ship those custom fields without waiting for a vendor roadmap.

Each listing has a bookings table with start_date and end_date per booking. Availability check: any overlap between requested range and existing bookings = unavailable. Calendar UI greys out unavailable dates. Webtwizz scaffolds the SQL overlap query and the calendar component.
Stripe pre-authorises the deposit amount on the renter's card at booking time but doesn't charge. After return, owner inspects and either releases the auth (no charge) or captures all/part for damage (charged). Standard Stripe pre-auth + capture flow.
On payment, Stripe Connect splits automatically. Platform fee (e.g. 15%) goes to your account; rest goes to the owner's connected Stripe account, paid out to their bank on Stripe's normal schedule (usually 2 days). You never handle their money.
Each listing stores a pickup location (lat/lng + address). Bookings include agreed pickup and return times. For peer-to-peer, both parties get each other's contact info post-booking. For business listings (e.g. shop with multiple lockers), wire up a kiosk-style pickup flow.
