04 / Why generate it
Substack takes 10% of paid revenue. At $5,000 MRR that's $500/month for hosting and email, things you can self-host for $20.
Beehiiv is cheaper ($39+) but locks features behind tiers. With Webtwizz you skip the SaaS and go direct: Stripe + Resend + your domain. Total infrastructure cost: under $30/month at scale.

Both export CSV (email + signup date). Add a one-time admin import page (Webtwizz scaffolds it). For paid subscribers, Substack exports active subscriptions but Stripe migration requires email outreach asking them to re-authorise on new platform.
Resend is the simplest start, their API supports batch sending and they handle deliverability infrastructure (DKIM, SPF, dedicated IPs at higher tiers). For 50K+ subscribers, consider AWS SES which costs ~$0.10 per 1,000 emails.
Yes. Each post has a tier field: free / paid / lifetime. The archive page renders previews for paid posts to non-subscribers with a paywall CTA. Email broadcasts segment by tier, paid posts only go to paying subscribers.
Configure DKIM, SPF, DMARC on your domain. Resend (or any modern provider) walks you through the setup. Use a dedicated subdomain for sending (mail.yoursite.com) so newsletter mail doesn't affect your transactional reputation.
