04 / Why generate it

Why generate it instead of buying it.

YNAB is $99/year. Mint is dead. Most expense trackers force their categorisation rules and chart styles. Generate one that fits your actual categories and the way you think about money.

Personal financial data is sensitive. Owning the database means it sits in a region you choose, encrypted at rest, deleted on your terms. No vendor analyst sees your transactions.

Yes. Each account has its own row, transactions reference an account_id. CSV import lets you specify which account on each upload. For automatic sync, use Plaid (US/CA), GoCardless / TrueLayer (EU/UK), or regional bank APIs.

Yes. Each transaction stores amount + currency. The app fetches FX rates daily via a free provider (exchangerate.host or similar) and converts to your base currency for chart display. Original amount preserved for accurate per-transaction view.
